History and objectives
The Family Office profession
The Family Office is an organization of people, offering advice and services to families for all matters linked to the fact that they hold a large family fortunes. It is mandated to assist the family in the management of its assets of all kinds : tax and legal matters, philanthropy, financial assets, real estate, art collections and various types of financing.
The main objective of the Family Office is to preserve family harmony with a long-term and transgenerational vision.
The Family Office also assists the family in its organization, i.e. the internal governance of its affairs.
The Family Office is the name given to the structure, i.e. the organized team, that provides services and advice to the family.
The Family Office can be “employed by the family”, or be a “service provider” for the family.
In the first case, family officers are salaried employees of a single family, to whom they dedicate their work (Single Family Office).
In the second case, the Family Office is a Multi Family Office, a commercial company that serves several customer families.

Our History

Based on the observation that there was no serious structure representing the profession on an international scale, the AFFO directors had the opportunity, during a study trip to Milan, to discuss with AIFO representatives the desirability of creating an “umbrella” structure, offering a place for sharing and exchange on a global scale, increasingly in line with the concerns and investment objectives of family officers.
Sharing the same objectives and the desire to create a useful federation, these two organizations joined forces in 2020 to create the International Federation of Family Office (IFFO).
